YOUR FIRST VISIT

The acupuncturist's goal is to understand the patterns of disease of the individual at the time of examination. Your acupuncturist will assess your physical condition, by identifying symptoms, uncovering your medical history, and any external factors that may impact your health and well-being, through an extended interview and intake process.
They examine your pulses by feeling 3 different regions in each of your wrists. Each of the regions reflects the conditions of the heart, liver, kidneys, lung, and spleen. Additionally they will perform palpitation techniques of various acupuncture channels and points, with the aim of discovering abnormal reactions that occur when disease appears in the body.

Based upon all of the collected information, the acupuncturist will determine the stage to which the disease has developed, location of the disease and the amount of the body's strength and resistance to fight the disease. The acupuncturist will then choose acupuncture point prescription tailored to your specific imbalance(s).
Acupuncture is generally not painful at all.  Its usually quite relaxing and meditative.

Each condition requires a different number of needles at various acupuncture points. A typical treatment usually requires between 4 and 20 needles. According to the nature of the problem being treated, 1 to 12 treatments are usually needed. Your acupuncturist will be able to assess the approximate amount of treatments needed after your first visit.

COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE
10 treatments given over 5 weeks (twice weekly) bring collagen and elastin to the area and plump up skin from within to retain and return that youthful glow. The mid-30's is the best age to begin cosmetic acupuncture, as prevention is the best treatment for facial lines. We perform cosmetic acupuncture on all ages of patients and each bring outstanding results in the eyes, forehead, cheeks, eyelids, hairline, and neck.
Noticeable differences are seen right away, but the collagen and elastin give another layer after 4 weeks.  To see long term changes it is essential to commit to the 10 treatments over a 5-week time period. It is worth the time and effort; you will see an improvement without dangerous side effects.
We will be balancing your entire body while doing the cosmetic acupuncture. Certain imbalances can cause premature aging, so the goal is to ease those imbalances as well. You can expect to diminish pain, sleep better, feel better emotionally, have more energy, better digestion and much more.  Those are all very positive side effects to acupuncture and oriental medicine therapies.

LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE

Acupuncture offers an alternate way to lower your blood pressure with no side effects. Treatment comprises placing hair-thin needles in your body to clear Qi blockages. Qi (qigong) a vital life force, travels through your body in a series of pathways called meridians. Needles are inserted in multiple parts of your body during your treatment, such as your knee, ears or between your toes. Introducing needles into specific meridians clears blockages, allowing Qi to flow freely once again.
This can improve your brain's ability to regulate hormones that play a part in controlling blood pressure and lower production of a kidney enzyme that can affect the electrolyte balance in your body.

Reducing stress is also, a factor that may raise blood pressure to unhealthy levels. Acupuncture can reduce stress.

MEN'S HEALTH

Natural Solutions to Prostate Issues through Acupuncture

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects approximately 50 percent of men between 51 and 60 and 90 percent of men older than 80, according to the Urinary Care Foundation. Conditions happen when prostates becomes enlarged.  This can lead to leakage of urine and the inability to empty the bladder fully. PLOS One published  a systematic review of acupuncture studies and revealed that patients that engaged in acupuncture showed short-term improvements in their International Prostate Symptom Scores (IPSS). IPSS questionnaires are used as a screening tool used to assess common symptoms of BPH.

DEPRESSION

In acupuncture, a practitioner inserts needles into the skin at points of the body thought to correspond with specific organs. Western research suggests the needles may activate natural painkillers in the brain; in traditional Chinese medicine, the process is believed to improve functioning by correcting energy blocks or imbalances in the organs.

A study published last fall in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that electroacupuncture—in which a mild electric current is transmitted through the needles—was just as effective as fluoxetine (the generic name of Prozac) in reducing symptoms of depression. For six weeks, patients underwent either electroacupuncture five times weekly or a standard daily dose of fluoxetine. The researchers, the majority of whom specialize in traditional Chinese medicine, assessed participants' symptoms every two weeks and tracked their levels of glial cell line–derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), a neuroprotective protein. Previous studies have found lower amounts of GDNF among patients with major depressive disorder, and in other research levels of the protein rose after treatment with antidepressant medication.

After six weeks, both groups showed a similar improvement in symptoms, and both treatments restored GDNF to a normal concentration. But the acupuncture began to work faster, reducing symptoms more dramatically at weeks two and four than the drug did. Among the patients who got better, a higher percentage of the acupuncture recipients showed “great improvement.”
